The Canary Islands are known as the islands of eternal spring because the weather here is good all year round. And we take the first splashes of the summer season in the best beaches of Lanzarote. We travel around this island to discover beaches of golden sand and transparent waters. We visit from the most touristic beaches of Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise to the most unknown beaches of the municipality of Yaiza. On our way, we approach the paradisiacal beaches of La Graciosa. It is difficult to choose which of the best beaches on Lanzarote to stay with.

The desert beaches of Papagayo

Declared a natural place, the Papagayo beaches, in Yaiza, are the most deserted and only visited by those who seek a few days of sun and sea on the island away from the most popular tourist spots. They are located within a privileged enclave, the Protected Natural Park of Los Ajaches, in the southeast of the island. And they are formed by several spectacular and almost virgin beaches and coves with transparent waters and hardly any vegetation.

There are no hotels, resorts or shops here, with the exception of a beach bar and a campsite, but it is very easy to reach by car or boat, as Lanzarote is very manageable.

The beaches of Papagayo are also made up of Playa de las Mujeres, Playa del Pozo, Playa del Congrio – it is a well-kept secret and one of the wildest beaches on the island. It is accessed by a dirt track -; Playa de la Cera, Playa Puerto Muelas, and Playa de Papagayo. All of these are made of white sand and crystal clear water, with a very quiet bathroom. They are silent and respect the environment as much as possible, as there is no promenade or infrastructure. So a word of advice, don’t forget the sunscreen, water, an umbrella to protect yourself from the strong sun.

The beaches of Papagayo can be reached by car on an unpaved road, there is parking near each beach and they can be reached on foot. They are ideal for hiking or cycling as all these beaches are connected by a dirt track that can be walked or cycled.

The most famous beaches of Puerto del Carmen

To the southwest of Lanzarote, in the municipality of Tías, we find one of the most touristic places of the island, Puerto del Carmen, with more than 6 kilometers of beaches sheltered from the trade winds with some protruding rocks and the warmest and calmest waters of the beaches of Lanzarote. Puerto del Carmen is also the island’s nightlife area par excellence with numerous bars and discos to enjoy the summer nights.

In Puerto del Carmen we can enjoy the sun and the sea in Playa Blanca, also called Playa Grande, the best known and frequented by the people of Lanzarote. Ideal for spending a day on the beach with children as it has all the possible services: security, showers, toilets and changing rooms, hammocks, and parasols for rent. Here you can also do water sports and rent boats.

The beaches of Los Pocillos and Matagorda are next to Playa Grande the most extensive in Puerto del Carmen. Its waters are super calm and that is why they are one of the most popular beaches on the island. Many come to these beaches to practice windsurfing, sea excursions, sports fishing or scuba diving to discover the native marine flora and fauna.
